NORTH SMITHFIELD – The North Smithfield Zoning Board added a new alternate member this month, and also confirmed that the current chairman and vice chairman will spend another year in their leadership roles.

Andre Gill, the owner of town-based business Andre Gill Engineering was named to the Zoning Board of Review following appointment by the Town Council.

“He has a background in engineering – broad based and mechanical – and what we call MEP, which is electrical, mechanical and fire,” said Zoning Board Chairman Robert Najarian. “His business is local, and he lives local. I think he’ll be a very good addition to the board because he has a knowledge in the general field that we deal in, so that’s nice.”

Najarian, who has led the board since he was first named to the position around six years ago, was confirmed for another year as chairman at the meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

“It will be a pleasure to do it again if you all so choose,” he said, following his appointment by member Vincent Marcantonio.

Christopher Deziel, who served his first year as vice chairman in 2023, will also continue in the leadership role this year.

The board is still seeking one additional volunteer to serve as an alternate. While the Zoning Board has had no resignations in recent years, town ordinance limits members to two consecutive full five year terms, excluding any alternate or partial terms, leading to the need for “new blood,” as members reach the term limit.

Those who may be interested in serving are encouraged to obtain an application from the North Smithfield Town Clerk’s office at 83 Green St.
