A 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New Jersey on Friday, April 5 rattled homes throughout Rhode Island and beyond, with reports of shaking across New England.
The United States Geological Survey says the quake was centered in Lebanon, NJ and happened around 10:25 a.m. Both Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport have been placed on a ground stop while runways are inspected for damage, according to the FAA.
There have been no major reports of damage from the earthquake.
The incident is reportedly the largest of it’s kind in the New York City region since 1973, and the largest in the Northeast since a 5.8 quake in Virginia in August of 2011.
