Yard waste

The town’s yard waste pickup resumes this week, with residents allowed to place brown, biodegradable lawn bags at the curb on their regular trash day for collection. Yard waste pickup will continue through Friday, June 21.

Open for the season

Wright’s Dairy Farm at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road held a soft opening for their ice cream venue, The Wright Scoop, over the weekend. The business has announced that the official first day of, “scoop season,” 2024 will be Thursday, May 2 from noon to 9 p.m.

License due

The deadline to obtain a dog license for the year in North Smithfield is Tuesday, April 30. Residents must provide a current rabies certificate and a check for $6 to avoid a late fee. Dogs can be licensed online here or are available at the Town Clerk’s office at 83 Greene St. during regular business hours.

Soccer tournaments

An event on Friday, May 3 will give students in grades K through 12 the chance to play competitive soccer, relax with friends and play yard games at the Wide World of Indoor Sports at 621 Pound Hill Road. The tournaments will be hosted by North Smithfield student Nate Stone as part of his senior project from 6-9 p.m. The cost to attend is $15 at the door, with all proceeds to benefit the North Smithfield Athletic Association.

Northmen 5K

This year’s Northmen 5K, an annual run/walk race through the streets of North Smithfield supporting the NSAA, along with Hotel for Homeless Dogs and Legacies Alive, will be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9 a.m. at 1850 Providence Pike. Sign up at https://racewire.com/register.php?id=13981…

Artisan fair

The Beef Barn at 200 Industrial Drive will host its annual Artisan Fair on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stroll the restaurant grounds to visit 140 artisans and craftspeople on-hand displaying their talents and creations including paintings, photography, jewelry, woodworking, crocheting and more. The rain date for the event is Sunday, May 5.

Town meetings

The Asset Management Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, April 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the North Smithfield Police Station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, May 1 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
