Hydrants, Church Street troubles, Sunday Funday & budget hearing: Seven things to know in Burrillville this week

Hydrant flushing

The Harrisville and Pascoag Water Departments will be flushing hydrants the week of May 13, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The flushing may cause discoloration to the water for a short period of time. Those with discolored water are advised to run it on cold until it becomes clear. The work is a part of annual maintenance on water mains and hydrants.

Spring Vendor Fair

First Universalist Church at 134 Main St. in Harrisville will hold a Spring Vendor Fair on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature vendors, a Church yard sale, and Harrisiville history walks led by the President of the Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society. Walks start at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon and are free to attend.

The rain date of the event is Sunday, May 19.

Plant sale

Mapleville Farm at 544 Victory Highway will hold a spring plant during their regular business hours on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19. The event is free to attend with many vegetable plants for sale.

Bash in the Boonies

RI Raptors Softball traveling league will host “Bash in the Boonies,” at Hauser Field on Howard Avenue starting at noon on Saturday, May 18, with a 10U tournament.

Church Street petition

Residents have been calling on the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to bring improvements to Church Street in Burrillville and 135 residents have signed a new petition. The petition on Change.org was started by resident Timothy Gerimia found here notes the crumbling pavement and lack of efficient drainage.

Car show

The 5th annual Sunday Funday for Vets Car Show will take place on Sunday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club at 200 Brook Road. The event will feature pre-1980s vehicles alongside the Bombshell Betties, food trucks, vendors, raffles including a 50/50 and live entertainment by Dirty Walter & the Smelltones and The Supermags. Non-perishable foods and hygiene items will be collected, along with donations for Operation Stand Down RI.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, May 13 starting at 7 p.m. at Station #2 at 141 Howard Ave. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Personnel Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 14 starting at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Court Room at 1477 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 14 in the Burrillville High School media center at 425 East Ave., starting with executive session at 5:30 p.m., followed by a regular meeting starting at 6 p.m. for an agenda found here.

The Burrillville Sewer Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed sewer rate change on Tiesday, May 14 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 141 Clear River Drive. The Zoning Board of Review will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 14 starting at 7 p.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Thursday, May 16 starting at 7 p.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
