Road work, art show & a Scout breakfast: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Road work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has begun improvements to Reservoir Road and Putnam Pike with contractor T. Miozzi. The work will impact Route 44 Westbound from South Main Street to Putnam Pike and from Reservoir Road to Money Hill Road. RIDOT has announced that a detour will be set in place with a tentative date of June 24. The project is expected to be completed by September.

Art show

Ponaganset High School will host a, “Gala of the Arts,” on Thursday, May 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the library of the high school at 137 Anan Wade Road. Glam attire is encouraged for the annual showcase of artwork.

Turtles

A representative from the Rhode Island Audubon will visit Harmony Library at 1137 Putnam Pike on Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. to teach guests about local turtles and how to best support turtle wildlife. Children ages 5 and up are invited to attend and meet a live turtle.

Registration is required by calling the library at (401) 949-2850.

May breakfast

Troop 44 Glocester will hold their annual May breakfast on Saturday, May 18 from 7 to 10 a.m. at Chepachet Union Church at 1138 Putnam Pike. Tickets cost $10 with children 5 and under to eat free, and Dino’s receipts will be collected.

Plant sale

The Ponaganset chapter of the Future Farmers of America’s plant sale continues this week on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the agricultural building behind Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. There will be hanging baskets, annuals, bedding plants vegetables and geraniums for sale, with all proceeds to benefit the Ponaganset FFA chapter.

Town meetings

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 14 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room at Laurel Crest at 64 Chestnut Hill Road. The agenda is here.
