Bird walk, bell ringing & flag raising: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Car show

The Beef Barn Restaurant’s first car cruise of the season is set to take place today, Tuesday, May 28, from 3 to 8 p.m., on the grounds of the business at 200 Industrial Drive. The last event of 2023 included more than 200 modern and classic cars and trucks. There is no charge to participate in the events, which open to the public, with the Beef Barn food truck on site.

The Car Cruise events will continue through the summer every Tuesday night, weather permitting.

Coffee hour

Good Working at 585 Smithfield Road will host a Networking Coffee Hour on Thursday, May 30 from 8 to 9 a.m. Join fellow professionals at the monthly event and enjoy complimentary coffee while you connect and collaborate.

Bird walk

The North Smithfield Land Trust will hold a guided bird walk at the Booth Pond Conservation Area on Saturday, June 1 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Trails require moderate effort, with some steep hills and hiking shoes are recommended, along with bug spray, water and binoculars. Flag raising

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold a flag raising ceremony on Saturday, June 1 starting at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Town building at 1 Main St. A flag will be raised through the month of June in honor of the late Fred Carter, with participation by VFW Post 6342, Boy Scout Troop 1139 and others who hope to remember the veteran. The service is part of an ongoing effort by the NSHA to acknowledge the town’s deceased veterans. Other families interested in participating  are asked to email [email protected] or call (401) 651-6316.

Bell ringing

Slatersville Congregational Church at 25 Green St. will host a Ringing Skills Workshop with the Merrimack Valley Ringers on Saturday, June 1 starting at 2 p.m., followed by a dinner at 5:30 p.m. and a then concert at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased here.

Town meetings

The Personnel Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the police station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda is here.
