Swim races, drive-in movie & a boat parade: Seven things to know in Glocester this week

Tax appeals

The town is notifying residents that the appeal period for the 2024 tax roll will begin on Thursday, August 1. Completed applications and documentation – if applicable – must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on or before Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

Summer concert

Glocester Recreation Department’s free summer concert series continues this week, with Greystone Rail to play at the Kent Field Pavilion at 1111 Putnam Pike on Wednesday, July 24. Guests are invited to enjoy the free concert starting at 6:30 p.m.

Swim races

The annual races for participants in this year’s swim lessons at both Marion Irons and Spring Grove will take place on Friday, July 26. Cheer on the local swimmers as they compete and showcase their skills starting at 11 a.m. at Spring Grove Beach at 178 Spring Grove Road. All participants get free ice cream after the event.

There will be no regularly scheduled swim lessons on Friday due to the races.

Exploring watersheds

Children ages six and up are invited to join officials from Glocester Manton Free Public Library and the Narragansett Bay Commission on Friday, July 26 to explore watersheds through hands-on activities. Learn what a watershed is and how it helps the environment at the event, starting at 11 a.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike.

Boat parade

Waterman Lake will host a Christmas in July Boat Parade on Saturday, July 27, with boat owners encouraged to decorate and light up the lake with some summer fun. The event will begin with an optional meet and greet at the marina at 6 p.m. with the parade to start at 7 p.m.

Drive-in movie

Glad Tidings Community Church at 111 Victory Highway will host a drive in movie night on Saturday, July 27 in the church’s parking lot with a showing of Spiderman: Homecoming. Admission is free, and the event will include raffles, concessions, and a silent auction with prizes from local vendors and businesses. Kids and teens are encouraged to wear their spidey-inspired best for a costume contest with prizes. Proceeds from the event will support the church’s youth trip to Columbus, Ohio this summer.

Town meetings

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 23 starting at 5 p.m. in the office of the superintendent’s office at 91 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will not hold their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 23.

The Glocester Zoning Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 25 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
