NORTH SMITHFIELD – David Punchak, a construction management consultant with years of extensive community involvement, recently announced his candidacy for North Smithfield Town Council.
“It is with great enthusiasm and a deep commitment to our community that I step forward to serve,” Punchak said.
Punchak has lived in town for 18 years with his wife and two sons and has been very active in the community. He served on the North Smithfield Planning Board as an alternate board member for three years and a board member for four years. He is also a past member of the North Smithfield Public Buildings Improvement Commission.
“Our town is not just where we live; it is our home, a place where each of us plays a vital role in shaping its future,” he said. Over the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many of you and understanding the challenges and aspirations we share. Now, I’m ready to translate that understanding into action.”
In addition to his role on the Planning Board, he served as commissioner, vice-president, and president of the North Smithfield Youth Soccer Association Executive Board over a span of nine years, served on the North Smithfield Little League Executive Board and has coached numerous youth sports teams.
Punchak is president of Benchmark Building Company, which he founded in 2008, as an interior contractor performing services for nationwide retail companies. He currently works as a construction management consultant for a renewable energy developer.
Punchak holds a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He is a licensed construction supervisor in the state of Massachusetts and is a Rhode Island registered contractor in addition to holding numerous other industry licenses and certifications.
He said his basic guiding principle, attributed to C.S. Lewis is, ‘Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking.”
“I will honor that tenet and humbly ask for your vote to become your next town councilor,” he said.
You have my vote David. Thank you for stepping up and bringing a different perspective to the TC. Your background, in combination with Rebecca’s is exactly what this town needs. New voices and experienced professionals to move us forward!
