BURRILLVILLE – Weather conditions featuring high heat and humidity will be staying with us over the next few days. It has been incredibly hot outside – and it’s here to stay awhile longer. Kids should limit outdoor sun activities and take measures in order to avoid heat exhaustion and dehydration when the weather conditions are this severe.
The Itty Bitty Super Dupers cartoon characters encourage children to be careful while playing and participating in athletic sports outside on hot days. Their Sun Smart Safety messages are very important and help keep kids out of harm’s way and out of hospital emergency rooms.
Kids should go inside once in awhile during the day where it is cooler and they can remain out of the direct sunlight. Sun exposure for long periods of time can make children sick, especially when they are active. Kids should drink plenty of water and eat light snacks during the day when playing outside on hot days. Young children and toddlers should be watched and monitored. They are more susceptible to the harmful heat and humidity, and should never stay outside in direct sunlight without supervision.
