NORTH SMITHFIELD – Christopher Simpkins, a town resident and father of two students currently attending North Smithfield public schools, has announced his candidacy for the North Smithfield School Committee.
Simpkins said he brings a strong combination of community involvement and professional experience to his candidacy. His contributions include roles as a Boy Scout leader, North Smithfield Little League coach, and vice chairman of the Halliwell Review Committee, where he spearheaded an inclusive community outreach process.
With a 25-year career in education and technology, Simpkins developed RIScholarships.com, a local platform that has helped thousands of students secure college funding. His professional experience extends to technology consulting for colleges in Boston, addressing technical challenges and optimizing administrative processes. Currently, as a member of the executive leadership team at an international media research company, Simpkins’ has developed strategic expertise he said would be well-aligned with the responsibilities of a school committee member.
Simpkins expressed his dedication to teamwork and continuity in maintaining the district’s positive momentum.
“Our school committee’s success comes from working effectively as a unified team, and maintaining strong partnerships with town leaders and school administration,” he said. “With several members stepping down, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to continue this collaborative spirit and help build on the progress they’ve made.”
Drawing from his family’s experiences, Simpkins said he recognizes the importance of comprehensive support for students.
“Our guidance counselors and administrators have been invaluable in helping our children navigate difficult social challenges,” said Simpkins. “Programs like ‘We the People’ civics education and our outstanding music program keep students engaged. We’re very fortunate to have a district that meets most students where they are, but by continuing to listen to parents and enhance support for diverse learning needs, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
Simpkins is also an advocate for improved community access to school facilities.
“Xpress football has struggled with scheduling due to an external management agreement, and I know from personal experience that our local Little League has faced difficulties securing field time,” he said. “If we’re not supporting our community and youth sports programs, we risk losing future athletes at the high school level.”
Simpkins said he is committed to expanding academic and extracurricular opportunities, ensuring responsible budgeting and reinforcing North Smithfield’s status as an educational leader in the state.
Chris is added value to any community involvement in which he is engaged. He is a strong advocate for children and the community at large. Chris, we support your election to the School Committee. Thank you for stepping up.
