NORTH SMITHFIELD – A stand up comedian and actor originally from Ohio is moving to town, with plans to get involved in the local community.
Matt Rife told the podcast, “Are You Garbage?” on Thursday, August 8 that he bought a property in Rhode Island, “about 20 minutes from The Conjuring House.” Rife said he was looking for an area with a good comedy scene, and that with Comedy Connection in Providence and the area’s proximity to Boston, Rhode Island fit the bill.
NRI NOW has since confirmed that home is in North Smithfield, but has removed details regarding the location upon the actor’s request to protect his privacy
The lot features a private driveway stretching a third of a mile, a pool and pool house, a helicopter pad and more. The house itself holds four bedrooms, six fireplaces, three balconies, a wine making cellar, a game room and a two-stall shooting range.
The 28-year-old recently purchased around 80 acres, and the podcast host joked that the sale included, “most of Rhode Island.”
“I look forward to waking up, seeing the sun coming through my window and the view that I get on a sunny day is just stunning,” Rife said.
Rife said he’s planning to build a sound stage on the land and that the home is currently under construction so he has not yet spent a lot of time there. He added that the house is so large he will have to get housekeeper
“It’s so big that it’s going to get dusty,” he said. “It’s going to get dirty.”
Rife also said that he enjoys ghost hunting, has been to the Conjuring House and described the Conjuring Universe as his favorite horror movie franchise.
Both Rife and a member of his management team contacted NRI NOW following publication of the original article, noting the comedian plans to get involved in the local community.
“I’m looking forward to exploring the vibrant community of North Smithfield whenever I’m in town,” Rife said in a statement to NRI NOW. “Though my upcoming international tour will keep me quite busy, I’m excited to contribute to the local area in any way I can.”
“Supporting local businesses and engaging with the community is something I value deeply,” Rife added.
The comedian, known for his stand up including a comedy special on Netflix, described his humble beginnings on the recent podcast, noting his popularity has been rising in recent years, in large part thanks to TikTok, where his clips have gone viral.
Rife’s latest, “Lucid – A Crowd Work Special,” was released on Netflix on Tuesday, August 13.
Those who hope to catch him live can check out his full event scheduled here.
Editor’s note: The above article has been edited to remove specific location information at the actor’s request, and updated with his statement

Welcome to the great town of North Smithfield.
Make sure you stop at Wrights Farm. It has the best desserts, all homemade.
It’s a great town to live in.
Matt, welcome to North Smithfield. I am a candidate for North Smithfield Town Administrator and would love your involvement in our great town. Again, welcome.
Rhode Island? I guess that is pretty far from L.A. so he should have plenty of privacy on the times he can be there. I wish him nothing but the best. He is an awesome, funny, bright, intelligent and very easy on the eyes young man with an amazing future ahead of him.
Someone tell him Worcester MA exists and would highly appreciate his talents and is generally a cool place to hang and do fun stuff!!!!
Good for him! I’d be interested giving him a price on being his grounds keeper! Love his comedy. Seems like a down to earth guy. Hope he contacts my company Go Green Landscaping LLC.
He is very down to earth. Great comedian with a bright future. Wish you luck in becoming his groundskeeper. You might want to be proactive and reach out to him or his manager and not sit back and wait for them to come to you. Early bird gets the worm.
I have to share, that out of many many landscaping companies I contacted to help clean up my late parent’s home, the ONLY one that showed up and did a nice job, was K &S Landscaping. And at a decent price. I was at wits end to say the least! They came through for me…..so this welcome to N.S. provides yet another choice to this new resident!
I don’t know how he does it. Smart. Quick witted, I guess. He is funny.
I hope this means he will be doing shows in RI. I love his brand of comedy
Wonder what kind of “favors” Rife performed to get all this affluence at a young age?
I find it odd that you assume that he had to do some kind of favor as you put it to get to the place that he is in life. I find his comedy to be one of the funniest types I’ve ever seen. I had never for seeing his form of comedy before and I do love stand-up but the way he does it I find it to be absolutely hilarious. I think he might have got his wealth just because he earned it.
Spot on girl. He did no favors to be where he’s at now. He worked really hard to reach his level of stardom. He is on the road most of the year traversing the Country doing his fabulous brand of comedy. You’re going to love him the more you see of him. Way funny.
he’s a natural .. sit back & enjoy his comedy !!
Good for him!
Dude, you’re a stupid person. He did no favors to be where he’s at now. He worked really hard to reach his level of stardom. He is on the road most of the year traversing the Country does not his fabulous brand of comedy. You’re kinda st jealous of him. Get a life.
Maybe don’t post an assumption and private address especially a celebrity. Give the dude some privacy clearly if he lives there doesn’t want people knowing.
Although I can see why celebrities wish for privacy, but it’s kind of what you get when you sign up to be a celebrity. In fact I think that’s the definition of celebrity. Celebrity gives gossip shows something to talk about.
So true,
If he really wants to help, I’ll show him around our Superfund playground! The laws that get ‘overlooked somehow’; and NOT to pollute our waters. I’ll give him comedy some 50 years ago and still holds today. What water is he next to?
