Trash delay

The Burrillville Department of Public Works notes that there will be no trash or recycling pickup on Monday, August 12 as the town celebrates Victory Day and pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Town Hall will also be closed on Monday in celebration of the holiday.

Turf page

The town has launched a new web page dedicated to information about the artificial turf project at Burrillville High School. Town officials note the page found here will be updated as information becomes available. Those following the issues are invited to subscribe here to receive notifications when updates are made.

Yoga & open mic

First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will host its monthly yoga and open mic events this week.

On Monday, August 12 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the church will host a gentle flow class appropriate for beginners or those who have more experience. Pre-registration is required by sending a message on social media or emailing [email protected] and space is limited. Participants will need to bring their own mat for the free class and arrive 10-15 minutes early. Donations for the church are welcome.

On Tuesday, August 13, open mic night continues at the church from 7 – 9 p.m. The event serves as an opportunity to spotlight local talent and connect the church within the local community. Musicians and poets are invited share songs and/or poems in front of an audience. All are welcome to share their talents or just enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

Those who wish to perform are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the event to sign up. Open mic participants will have ten minutes or two songs, five minutes or two poems. If the the list is completed early, participants will be invited to a lightning round and go around again. The event is free and donations are welcome to support the preservation efforts of this historic church.

The open mic will continue as a monthly event on the third Tuesday of each month. For more information contact Jan Luby at [email protected].

Yard sale

Head back to First Universalist Church on Saturday for a giant yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proceeds to benefit ongoing preservation of the historic building.

Final concert

The final concert in the Riverwalk Times summer series for 2024 will take place this week, with Country Wild to play a free show at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion on Tinkham Lane starting at 6 p.m. The Dinolicious food truck will be on site, with the concert to be held inside the library in the case of inclement weather.

Friday movie

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will sponsor Family Movie Night on Fridays in August at Spring Lake Beach at 50 Old Hillside Drive. This week, catch Kung Fu Panda 4 at the beach starting at 7 p.m. In case of rain, movies will move to Saturday.

Pizza, beer & jewelry

Bravo Brewing Company at 77 Pascoag Main St. will host Pizza, Beer & Jewelry on Sunday, August 18, from noon to 2 p.m. Guests are invited to treat themselves to a variety of gourmet pizzas, craft beers, and unique jewelry pieces.

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, August 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Station #2 at 141 Howard Ave. The agenda is here.
