LINCOLN – A North Smithfield man who reportedly attracted the attention of Lincoln police with the heavily tinted windows on his pickup truck – and by doing a, “burnout,” in the middle of a roadway – was arrested on Saturday for driving under the influence and carrying a firearm while impaired.
Robert Pinardi, 38, was stopped by police in his Ford F-150 in the parking lot of a bar on Summer Street around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.
According to police, Pinardi created a large cloud of smoke in the roadway, and when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, he turned into the parking lot and attempted, unsuccessfully, to back into a space. Officers say the driver had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and a flushed red face.
Pinardi failed standardized field sobriety tests and registered, “well above the legal limit,” on a breath test, according to police.
He reportedly attempted to re-enter the vehicle, but was stopped by officers.
A loaded semi-automatic Ruger .45 caliber handgun holding eight rounds, including one in the chamber, was later discovered inside of the vehicle.
Pinardi was charged with DUI, blood alcohol content unknown, first offense, and carrying a weapon while under the influence of liquor or drugs. He is due back in court for a pre-arraignment conference on November 18.
