Joseph O. Phaneuf, 92, of Odessa, FL, and formerly of Rhode Island, passed away July 26, 2024 at home. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Laurencia (Mayer) Phaneuf.
Mr. Phaneuf was a Math and Science Teacher for Mt. St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket, retiring in 1998, and previously taught in Nashua, NH, Lewiston, ME, St. Laurent, Montreal, and Fitchburg, MA. Joseph was a former member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, but left in 1982 to care for his ailing mother. During his time in Florida, he enjoyed golfing and doing part time maintenance work at the Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Resort in Odessa, FL.
He is survived by his brother, Rene Phaneuf and his wife, Claire, of North Smithfield; several nieces and nephews; as well as, his best friend and golf partner, Ken Ross of New Port Richey, FL. He was the brother of the late Emile, Albert, and Hortense Phaneuf, and Gertrude Nardolillo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 9AM in St. Agatha’s Church, 34 Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Wrentham Rd., Bellingham. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.
