Blood drive
The Burrillville Police Department will hold a blood drive on Thursday, August 22 from 1 to 7 p.m. in the community room of the station at 1477 Victory Highway. Sign up to donate at ribc.org/drives using sponsor code #5060. Appointments are preferred but walk in donations will be accepted if space permits. All donors will be entered to win a $450 gift card for footwear from goat.com.
Fundraiser dinner
The annual fundraiser dinner for the First Universalist Church will be held on Friday, August 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Addieville East Farm in Mapleville. The cost is $30 for adults or $15 for children and must be purchased in advance, with all proceeds go toward preservation of the church, an iconic historic building at 134 Main Street in Harrisville.

Friday movie
Spring Lake Beach has announced this week that Family Friday Movie Night is now free – even to visitors who don’t pay for beach admission. The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition sponsors the events on Fridays in August at the beach at 50 Old Hillside Drive. This week, catch Wonka at the beach on Friday, August 23 starting at 7 p.m.
In case of rain, movies move to Saturday night.
Food drive
A food drive to benefit the Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program and the Burrillville Animal Shelter will be held on Saturday, August 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Town Common gazebo at 135 Harrisville Main St. Volunteers will be collecting supplies and non-perishable food items including canned meats and soups; kids snacks and juice boxes; canned kitten food and litter; Dawn dish soap; paper towels and bleach; and Purina Pro Plan or Purina One dry dog food.
Dedication
The Burrillville Land Trust will host a celebration and dedication of the agricultural and conservation land for Ernie and Norma O’Leary on Saturday, August 24 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. No registration is needed to attend the event, which will include a brief speakers program, a meet and greet with the O’Leary family, and cold lemonade. Visitors should wear study shoes for a leisurely walk in a wooded area. The trust will reveal donors’ names and read poetry near site of poet E. Merrill Root’s cabin.
To get to the event, use 265 Croff Road, Pascoag as a GPS reference. Visitors will enter Croff Road from Buck Hill Road just before reaching the Connecticut border. The event will be on the left around 3/4 of a mile down Croff Road.

Food trucks
PVD Food Trucks will return to the grounds of The Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. on Sunday, August 25 for The Assembly of Food Trucks starting at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy a variety of foods and libations along with live entertainment. The public is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and spend in the evening on the theater grounds.
