Scarecrow meeting

The Glocester Scarecrow Festival Committee will hold a, “critical,” meeting on Tuesday, August 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Lodge #7 at 1167 Putnam Pike. The committee is seeking help with the event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, and noted, “This is it folks. We really want this to happen but need your support.”

School supply giveaway

Glad Tidings Community Church will hold a school supply giveaway to help students prepare for the upcoming school year on Thursday, August 22 from 5:30 t0 8:30 p.m. at 14 South Main St. in Pascoag. All parents and students entering pre-K through 12th grade are invited to stop in for school supplies and backpacks.

Tracy Randall fundraiser

Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike will host a fundraiser to help Tracy Randall in her battle with breast cancer on Saturday, August 24 starting at 1 p.m., to include live music, food, raffles and more. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased at Mr Z’s, Cady’s Tavern, Pinewood Pub, Loreen’s It’s All Hair, Lindy’s Tavern and Tavern On Main.

School calendar

The Glocester School District has released the calendar for the upcoming school year, showing vacations, holidays and professional development days. The calendar for the 2024/2025 school year can be found here.

Parker Family fundraiser

Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike will host a fundraiser for the Parker family on Sunday, August 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and include a pasta dinner and live band from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will also include raffles, a silent auction, volleyball and cornhole, with all proceeds to help with expenses and services following the death of 17-year-old Tyler Parker.

Chicken BBQ

The Chepachet Fire Department will host its annual Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 24 at the station at 1170 Putnam Pike from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20 or $10 for children under 10, and can be purchased from any current member or by stopping by the station Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door as space permits.

Town meetings

The Glocester Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 20 starting at 10 a.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Planning Board workshop originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 20 has been cancelled.

The Glocester Zoning Board meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, August 22 has also been cancelled.
