BURRILLVILLE – The Burrillville Democratic Town Committee will hold a, “meet the candidates,” night on Wednesday, August 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion in Harrisville.

Candidates Lewis Pryeor, who is running for Senate District 23 against incumbent Sen. Jessica de la Cruz, and Paul Roselli, who is running against incumbent Rep. David Place for House District 47, will be joined by Rhode Island House District 2 Congressman Seth Magaziner.

Magaziner will hold a town-hall style visit in support of the two candidates, as well as his own campaign in the 2024 election.

On November 8, 2022, after a hard fought election that predicted a Democratic challenger would lose in District 2, Magaziner won the mid-term election by 7,282 votes over Republican opponent Allan Fung. In the two years that have followed, the Democratic Town Committee notes that Magaziner has witnessed some of the most historic and tumultuous moments in world events and US politics: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; the strengthening of NATO; the Supreme Court overturning of Roe vs. Wade in a 6 to 3 decision and Planned Parenthood v. Casey ending women’s right to have an abortion; the election of Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy after 15 rounds of voting that included a brief brawl by Republican leaders, name calling and more all shown live on cable and TV; the passing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law; the Biden-Harris administration hosting the first-ever White House Climate Resilience Summit and Releases National Climate Resilience Framework; the passing of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Build Back Better Act; and the removal of McCarthy from the House Speaker’s position.

In a press release, the BDTC said that during that time, Magaziner fought hard for Rhode Island.

“Rising above the fray, Seth working with U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Gabe Amo got RI millions of dollars for T.F. Green Airport, funds to bolster public safety and training equipment for local firefighters, and securing federal grants to support the police departments in Cranston and Coventry, rehabilitate public libraries in South Kingstown and Providence, prevent flooding in Johnston and develop the waterfront in East Greenwich,” noted the committee.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, Magaziner serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security, for which he is ranking member, and on the Subcommittee for Counterterrorism, Intelligence and Law Enforcement.

The public is invited to attend the meet and greet, which will also serve as fundraiser for the three candidates. The event takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on August 28 at the Tinkham Lane pavilion, across from the Jesse Smith Library. Community members are invited to attend and participate in the opportunity to learn more about the candidates and engage with them directly.

  1. Will people in Northern RI ever realize that federal funding only comes from the elected congressional delegation? You might not want to waste your time or your energy, but if you could learn how to “play nice,” some of that money could flow your way.
