BURRILLVILLE – A convenient store in Mapleville that’s been closed for more than a year is now set to reopen under new ownership.
Town councilors approved a new victualing license for Country Farms at 86 Mapleville Main St. submitted by Nirav Patel of North Bellerica, Mass. The business, Shiv 86 Inc., will continue to be known at Country Farms.
“It’s always been called Country Farms,” said Town Clerk Vicki Martin during a meeting on the license on Wednesday, August 14.
“My grandfather used to own that store,” said Councilor Raymond Trinque.
Councilors noted that such a business is needed in the area.
“This is near my house. I’ll be very glad when we can get back in there,” said Town Council President Don Fox.
“Due to the fact that that side of town is very limited in any kind of convenience stores, it’s important that that remain open for that area,” said Councilor Stephen Rawson.
Councilor Justin Batalon noted that there is another Country Farms located in Pascoag.
Martin said that while it is unclear exactly when the prior business operating in the Mapleville space closed, the owners did not renew their license last November.
“They had already been closed when I sent renewal reminders in September 2023,” Martin told NRI NOW.
Councilors unanimously approved the license application.
