Hoedown, charity cornhole & Rally Day: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Back to school Hoedown

The Glocester Recreation Department will host a Back to School Hoedown on Wednesday, Sept. 4 with entertainment by Whiskey Road Band. The free concert will take place at the pavilion at Kent Field at 1111 Putnam Pike starting at 6 p.m.

Bingo

The Chepachet Grange at 28 Chopmist Hill Road will host Bingo on Friday, Sept. 6, with doors at 5 p.m. and games starting at 6 p.m. There will be food available, and 10 packs 6 of cards on sale for $10. No one under age 18 will be permitted in the building.

Charity cornhole

Oakleaf Campground at 43 Oakleaf Way will host a charity cornhole tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7 to raise money for the Peggy McKeever Scholarship fund and funds for Ponaganset High School. Last year, the campground donated $4,200 to Ponaganset and Tollgate high schools.

The cost to participate is $60 per team, with registration at 10 a.m. and bags to fly at 11 a.m. The Rise & Grind food truck will offer coffee, breakfast and lunch on site and the event will also include a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Rally Day

Chepachet Union Church at 1138 Putnam Pike will hold its annual Rally Day starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8. Visit the church for a carnival featuring a bounce house, games and treats to kick off the Sunday school year. The event is open to the public.

Town meetings

The Assessor’s Board of Review will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room at Pine Meadow at 56 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Planning Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3 starting at 7 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Economic Development Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is excepted to be posted on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance.
