BDTC meeting

The Burrillville Democratic Town Committee will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Jesse Smith Memorial Library starting at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will include Secretary of State Gregg Amore and AFL-CIO Secretary/ Treasurer Patrick Crowley. The public is invited to attend.

Free Alzheimer’s and dementia presentation

Burrillville Senior Services will host a free presentation on understanding Alzheimer’s and dementia in the community room of Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane on Friday, Sept. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. Get your questions answered and hear about resources with Alzheimer’s Association of RI Program Manager Annie Murphy and RI Elder Info Executive Director Deb Burton.

Route 102 update

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation issued an update on road work in town this week, noting that steel repairs have been completed on the Pascoag River Bridge, and contractors are currently working on forming the deck and backwalls. The department notes that roadway sections along Route 102 are now being prepared for asphalt, and at Lapham Bridge, the concrete deck has been replaced.

RIDOT notes that the goal is to reopen Route 102 in late October. Until then, motorists should continue to follow signed detours.

Game night

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will hold an open gaming night on Friday, Sept. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jesse Smith Memorial Library with consoles including XBox, Switch, Playstation and Oculus Quest. The event is open to kids in grade 6 through 12 and has a strict, “no in and out,” policy.

Open House/Yard Sale

Burrillville Historical Society will hold its annual Open House/Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and this year’s event will feature a new artifact: the old Harrisville Post Office window. President Betty Mencucci noted that the post office window was moved into a new building called the Reynolds’ Block in December 1901. The unit is made of oak with two counter-weighted windows and a set of moveable iron bars. Both windows are made of glass and one has a hole in it to speak through when conducting business, while the other is painted with the words “Open From 8 A.M. to 5 P.M” The windows slide up and down easily using an old-fashioned system of ropes, pulleys and window weights. The event will include will be a short presentation about the Harrisville Post Office window at 11 a.m.

In addition to the giant yard sale, the Historical Society will hold a book sale and bake sale during the event. There will be old photos, historical exhibits and an old newspaper collection available for public viewing. The event will be held at the Bridgeton School at 16 Laurel Hill Ave. in Pascoag.

The society is currently accepting donations of yard sale items. Those with donations are asked to call Mencucci at (401) 568-8449 or send text to (401) 500-0433. The Historical Society also collects Dino’s and IGA sales receipts. 

Those with old photos of Burrillville or Burrillville memorabilia that they would like to donate or allow the organization to scan are asked to visit the event. 

Fall Splash

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will hold the Fountain Square Fall Splash on Saturday, Sept. 28, bringing live entertainment, food and drink, games, activities and more to the village center from 4 to 9 p.m. The rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Stuff the Gazebo

The Burrillville Lions Club, in collaboration with the town of Burrillville, will host a Stuff the Gazebo event on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at the town gazebo on Harrisville Main Street to collect items for the Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program. The volunteer-run program provides weekend meals to around 50 children in need in town. Items needed include peanut butter, juice boxes, macaroni & cheese, pasta and other non-perishable food items not in glass jars.

Broncopalooza

Broncopalooza will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Branch River Park next to the Burrillville Middle School. The fair-like event will include food, games and Bronco merchandise on sale. The event is open to the public and has free admission.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Utility District Board of Commissioners will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 23 starting at 2 p.m. at the district office at 253 Pascoag Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24 starting at 10 a.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
