The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will off a free class in sound design on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. Join RISE’s tech director, Roy Laurent, for a three-hour class on the most challenging aspect of technical theater. The event is the third in a series of free tech workshops offered by RISE. Participants will discuss what sound is, some sound history, the equipment used, and a few tips for success. Future sound engineers, sound techs, studio recording people, film people, musicians, and anyone interested in sound reproduction or sound reinforcement are encouraged to attend.
Laurent specializes in sound reproduction, stage lighting design and stage special effects. He has also worked as a professional roadie for a touring band, and has performed as technical director, set foreman, stage manager, sound engineer, lighting designer and special effects wizard. He owns Clear River Technical Services Corporation where he is a freelance electronics engineer and also teaches electronics at the New England Institute of Technology.
This workshop is free, but participants are asked to register in advance at www.ristage.org
