Book hike, Artisan Fair & hayrides: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

The North Smithfield Police Department started a recruitment drive last week and will be holding events such as Coffee with a Cop where potntial appliocants can learn about the job.

Book hike

North Smithfield Library will hold a Book Hike on Monday, Sept. 30, exploring Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne while walking the Rocky Hill Conservation Area. The program is offered in partnership with the North Smithfield Land Trust. Participants will meet at the conservation area on Rocky Hill Road at 4:30 p.m. To sign up visit https://northsmithfield.librarycalendar.com/events/month.

Coffee with a Cop

Visit Dunkin Donuts at 941 Victory Highway on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. for Coffee with a Cop. Meet with the chief and officers from the North Smithfield Police Department to hear about dispatcher and officer opportunities in the latest recruitment effort.

Artisan Fair

The Beef Barn Restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive will hold a Fall Artisan Fair on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit with local crafters and vendors featuring a variety of unique and handmade items.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, Oct. 6.

Shred event

Noting that identity theft is becoming increasingly common, Navigant Credit Union will host a shred event on Saturday, Oct. 5 from noon to 3 p.m. at five locations, including the branch at 925 Victory Highway in North Smithfield. Both members and non-members are invited to use the free service to shred up to two boxes of confidential documents.

Hayrides

The fall season is well underway at Goodwin Bros. Farm Stand, where pumpkin displays are now in place for visitors and October events are set to begin. Guests are invited to take photos with the displays and tag the farm stand on social media.

“We love your visits to the pumpkin houses, even if you’re just stopping to look and aren’t planning to make any purchases,” the business noted, adding that the produce and flowers in the displays are for sale.

Free hayrides at the farm are set to begin on Sunday, Oct. 6 and the Oatmiel Cafe food truck will be on site is for weekends. For more details about the upcoming events visit Goodwin Brothers Farm Stand on Facebook.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Groundwater Protection Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 30 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
