As a North Smithfield resident, I’m writing to express my full support for David de la Cruz, a candidate for our School Committee. David is a man of integrity, with a long history of service to our community and a genuine dedication to education.

David’s commitment to education is evident in his background. A graduate of Rhode Island College with a degree in secondary education, David has taught students from grade 5 through grade 12 in both public and private schools. His firsthand experience as an educator gives him a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities our students face. David has also served on the town’s budget committee and is now serving his second term, where he has worked to prioritize the funding of our schools while being mindful of our town’s financial responsibilities.

Beyond his professional qualifications, what stands out most about David is his heart for people. After leaving the classroom, he dedicated himself to full-time service in his church as a pastor and teacher. I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand his empathy and genuine desire to see others thrive. Whether in his church, in the community, or out knocking on doors across North Smithfield, David connects with people in a way that shows he truly cares about their well-being. He listens, he understands, and he acts with diligence.

David is also a parent of three school-aged children, giving him a personal investment in ensuring that our schools are the best they can be. Over the past few months, David has been out meeting with residents, speaking with families, and learning about the concerns and hopes of our community. This level of commitment shows how seriously he takes the role of representing us and our children. He is one of the hardest working people I know, and it’s exactly this work ethic and dedication that our schools need.

David understands that our schools are the foundation of our community’s future. He recognizes the importance of maintaining academic excellence and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed. His unique blend of experience, both in and out of the classroom, and his commitment to our town make him the ideal candidate for the North Smithfield School Committee.

I believe David de la Cruz is the right person to help lead our schools forward, and I encourage you to join me in supporting him.

  1. Vote de la Cruz for NS SC!!! David is definitely a man of integrity, with a history of service to the community, and dedication to education. He is a candidate who would truly care about the students of NS Schools, if elected to SC. I will be voting for de la Cruz.

    • No one is indoctrinating your kids. Please spend a day in the school and see how receptive kids are to ANYTHING their teachers say. Teachers can’t get their students to do minimal homework and have such a strict curriculum, but you think they somehow have the time or ability to brainwash them.

  2. Please share why one who would deny trans students the respect and support they deserve is what is needed on the council.

We don’t need culture wars on our school committee. We need people who will responsibly allocate the majority of the town budget. We need people who will support the administrators who are building supportive and inclusive spaces for all in our community. We need people who will stop allowing public assets to be leveraged for private profit or denied use altogether to the detriment of local non-profit youth sports.

  3. De La Cruz has no business being on a school committee. His anti-trans stance is dangerous for for the students who may need support from a trusted resource the most.

      • So you want students to be in fear while in a learning environment? This goes far beyond the anti trans stance. Look at the high school, didn’t they just get sued for not having a safe environment? Seems more like another possible legal issue, which just adds to the bad look we’re getting lately. Nike ban, police officer lawsuit, the quarry, town officials not know how the economy works, a town official being a laughing stock, suppressing the first amendment, signs not legal places, kind of embarrassing honestly.
