BURRILLVILLE – Crews worked for several hours Thursday evening to upright equipment that fell down an embankment during construction on Douglas Pike, but were reportedly unsuccessful.

The road was closed again starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 to bring in a large crane to remove the equipment, according to Burrillville Police Col. Stephen Lynch.

Lynch said Manafort Construction will work to upright the 33-ton excavator, which reportedly tipped around noon on Thursday, rolling over toward the nearby woods. No one was injured in the incident, which took place by the intersection of Route 102 while crews with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation worked on a retaining wall.

“The section of Rt. 7 between Rt. 102 and Joslin Road will be closed to all traffic while these efforts are taking place,” Lynch said.
