Pink Out, spooky mini-golf & a drag show: Eight things to know in Burrillville this week

Pink out

Help the Burrillville High School girls volleyball team raise funds for the fight against breast cancer at their annual Pink Out on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the foyer of the gymnasium of the school at 425 East Ave. There will be painted pumpkins for sale, raffles for themed gift baskets, a bake sale, t-shirts and many other pink out items available. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Early voting

Early voting begins this week and Burrillville residents will be able to cast a ballot at the American Legion Hall at 103 Harrisville Main St. beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 16. through Monday, Nov. 4. Voting takes place during normal Town Hall hours, and early voters are asked to use the Town Hall parking lot.

Young Frankenstein

The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will present Young Frankenstein at The Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. on select dates from Friday, Oct. 18 through Saturday, Oct. 26. Tickets cost $27, or $23 for seniors, students and military, here, and will also be sold at the door for an additional $2 each.

Halloween mini-golf

Jesse Smith Memorial Library will offer Halloween-themed glow-in-the-dark mini-golf on Friday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Riverwalk behind the library at 100 Tinkham Lane. Enjoy obstacles, glowing golf balls, and eerie fun for the whole family. No registration is required and the event will be held inside the library in the case of inclement weather.

E-waste & shred event

The town’s refuse and recycling department is reminding residents that pickup will be delayed by one day this week for Columbus Day.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the town will hold an e-waste collection and shred event at the public works building at 200 Clear River Drive from 9 a.m. to noon. Shredding services are limited to one box per person and a complete list of e-waste items accepted can be found here.

Halloween bazaar

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society will be holding a Halloween bazaar on Saturday, Oct 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bridgeton School at 16 Laurel Hill Ave. in Pascoag. The event will feature a Halloween-themed penny social, spooky baked goods including home-made apple pies, and an indoor yard sale and book sale. Information on Burrillville cemeteries will also be available, along with a chance to see the historic Harrisville Post Office window, where you can purchase a postcard of a scene in Harrisville from the early 1900s that is postmarked with the date 1901. 

“Watch out! You may be greeted by a werewolf!” noted a release on the event. Yard Sale donations are welcome.

Drag show

Dev’s Tavern at 341 Chapel St. will host a drag show on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8 to 11 p.m. with two performers: Kandi Dishe and Victoria Obvious. Tickets cost $25 and will likely sell out but can be purchased in advance at the bar.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, Oct. 14 starting at 7 p.m. at station #2 at 141 Howard Ave. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 starting at 10 a.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Binns building at 111 Chapel St. The agenda is here.
