Holiday trash
Town Hall was closed Monday, Oct. 14 in observance of the Columbus Day and trash and recycling pick up will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. The week of October 14 is a recycling collection week in North Smithfield.
Early voting
Early voting begins this week and North Smithfield residents will be able to cast a ballot at Town Hall at 83 Green St. starting on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Early voting will continue through Monday, Nov. 4 during the hours of 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

Ghost hunting
North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will host the Rhode Island Paranormal Research Group on Wednesday, Oct. 16 starting at 6 p.m. Discover the basics of ghost hunting, including basic equipment, how to choose a location to investigate, and what it’s like to investigate a paranormal visitation.

Open house
North Smithfield High School at 412 Greenville Road will host a “Northmen Night,” open house on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Families are invited to meet the teachers, and explore the building and programs. The evening will end with complimentary ice cream.
Road to the Stars
The Allie’s Road to the Stars car cruise will be held on the grounds of the Beef Barn Restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will benefit The Allie Saad “Learn, Do, Heal and Love” Foundation, presented in conjunction with the Road Angels Club. The donation to participate is $10 per vehicle, with dash plaques for the first 100 cars. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase and DJ Tim will provide music.
The rain date for the event is Sunday, October 20.
Spooky Spirits
The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department has announced that the town’s annual Spooky Spirits night will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Brothers Farm at 458 Greenville Road. The event will include spooky hayrides, a warm cider sampling, face painting, food trucks and more. The rain date for the events is Sunday, Oct. 20.
At the schoolhouse
The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold an open house at the Forestdale Schoolhouse at 190 School St. on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are invited to stop by and check out town historical artifacts, meet NSHA members, and purchase N.S. memorabilia including calendars, ornaments, throws, puzzles and more.
Coffee with the Candidates
Visit the Beef Barn’s Pound Hill Creamery at 200 Industrial Drive on Sunday, Oct. 20 for Coffee with the Candidates from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All candidates for elected office are invited to attend the event. Residents are invited to stop in for free coffee and pastry, and stay for conversation to discuss issues with the candidates.
The event is hosted and sponsored by Town Council candidate John Beauregard.

The North Smithfield Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 starting at 9 a.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
