As a member of the Burrillville Town Democratic Committee, I want to express my frustration and dissatisfaction with the Burrillville Town Council. Especially regarding the turf field, the Town Council has acted against professional advice and the will of the people they’re supposed to represent. Despite knowing the artificial turf is dangerous to young athletes and to the natural environment, they have made deals with the company to build the field anyway. Even though over a thousand residents have signed a petition against the field, the Town Council has made the deal.
The current Town Council’s refusal to listen to the advice of experts and the will of the people has inspired me to become more involved in town politics. Instead of voting for any member of the current council, I will be writing in my own name, “Jennifer Plante” on my ballot this year as I consider officially running for a seat during the next election cycle. I encourage every citizen of Burrillville who feels disappointed and disenfranchised to join me in protest by writing in a name or phrase of their choice. Let’s send a signal to the Town Council that we think we can have better representation.
