BURRILLVILLE – With Veterans Day fast approaching, the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library’s Children’s Department is giving families an opportunity to help youth understand why our country honors our veterans every November.

On Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m., kids and their families are invited to the library at 100 Tinkham Lane to hear about the experiences of local veterans.

To warm up for the program, kids will learn how to march in formation on the Riverwalk and following the exercise, the program will move inside to the library’s community room. Families will meet local veterans from the Berard-Desjarlais American Legion Post 88 Burrillville led by current Commander Raymond Trinque, a U.S. Army veteran, as they talk about their experiences serving the country.

Kids are encouraged to ask questions in the informal setting, and a craft table will be available for families to make and personalize thank you cards to give to veterans in appreciation of their service.

Light refreshments will be served. Registration is encouraged but not required.

It is the library’s second program this week aiming to connect kids with local veterans. On Monday, Nov. 4, Burrillville Public Schools hold a professional day for teachers and kids met with Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Angela Cardone and Bogi, a Belgian Malinois

For more information or to register, visit the Children’s Department at the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library or call 401-710-7800.
