NORTH SMITHFIELD – Town Council Vice President Douglas Osier shared his vision for North Smithfield, saying he will focus on proactive planning, fiscal accountability, and strong leadership. If re-elected, Osier believes the council should return to setting legislative goals.
Osier told NRI NOW that he “believes setting legislative goals will help identify key projects, track progress, set budgetary goals, avoid duplication, and secure funding. This could save taxpayers, as well as benefit our community, both now and into the future.”
Osier also stressed the importance of experience and continuity in governmental processes. He noted that “having experienced council members ensures that the town can manage local governance effectively, without unnecessary setbacks.” He supports staggered council terms as a future charter amendment to “ensure stability and minimize delays affecting taxpayers.”
During his two terms, Osier said he has shown dedication to working with residents, boards, commissions, administration, and fellow council members. He has advocated for posting project updates online, using the newsletter and technology to address concerns and provide timely updates.
Osier also emphasized “balancing increased services with affordability. Without proactive planning, fiscal accountability, and strong leadership, North Smithfield’s sustainability is at risk.” He highlighted the need for infrastructure improvements, capital planning, and maintenance.
“By using data, the town can ensure the best return on investments and adapt quickly to state laws to support, protect, and improve residents’ quality of life,” Osier said. “If re-elected, I will continue working for all residents and provide the necessary balance in town government.”
Osier respectfully asks for your vote.
