Police identify 52-year-old North Smithfield man killed in construction accident

BURRILLVILLE – A 52-year-old North Smithfield man died after he was pinned under an overturned piece of construction equipment in an accident on Saturday, Nov. 9 according to police.

James Haczynski, 52, was reportedly operating a Lull attempting to guide a large tree as another worker cut the tree down. The tree shifted causing the equipment to overturn, throwing Haczynski from the machine, according to witnesses at the scene.

Burrillville Police and East Burrillville Fire personnel arrived to the incident on Victory Highway around 8:40 a.m. to find Haczinski pinned underneath the forklift. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Heath Administration investigated the incident and Rhode Island State Police provided troopers to handle all calls for service while local personnel responded.
