Boy Scout Troop 44 Glocester took part in Scouting for Food last week, collecting 840 pounds of food to benefit those in need.

Advisories lifted

The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management have recommended lifting their advisory for recreational activities at Lake Washington and Keech Pond. The advisories were related to high levels of blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria. According to a release, recent consecutive surveys and sample analysis confirmed that blue-green algae has been present but at acceptably low levels and that cyanotoxin is not present in detectable concentrations.

The agencies note that blue-green algae conditions can change quickly, and it is possible that blooms may affect Lake Washington and Keech Pond again, or other waterbodies. The public should avoid contact with any body of water that is bright green or has a dense, floating algal mat on the water’s surface. Blue-green algae blooms may look like green paint or thick pea soup. Toxins may persist in the water after a blue-green algae bloom is no longer visible.

Tax payment

Glocester’s 2024 second quarter tax payment was due on Friday, Nov. 1, and the town is reminding residents that interest/penalties will be applied on Tuesday, Dec. 3 on the unpaid quarter at the rate of 8 percent per annum retroactive to August 1. The remaining quarters will be due and payable as stated on the tax bill.

Real Estate tax bills were mailed on July 12 and anyone who has not received a tax bill, should call (401) 568-6206, ext. 4. The tax office noted that failure to receive a tax bill will not excuse non payment or any related interest/penalty.

Payments can be brought to Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; by check left in the dropbox; or submitted with Visa/Mastercard at www.RIeGovernment.com or www.glocesterri.gov/departments.htm#collector
