BURRILLVILLE – The man who police say hoarded hundreds of guns at his home on Tarkiln Road will not have his federal sentence reduced according to a decision by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ronald Andruchuk, 40, pleaded guilty last year to charges of making false statements on federal documents while applying to purchase guns and was sentenced to five years in prison.
The sentence followed a headline grabbing arrest in 2022, when Burrillville police responded to reports of shots fired at the Andruchuk’s home. Andruchuk was reportedly found wearing a Commando-style multipurpose vest, and carrying four firearms and methamphetamine. After he was taken into custody, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives agents and Burrillville Police executed a federal search warrant and seized 219 firearms and more than 25,000 rounds of ammunition.
An agreement not to appeal his sentence – which also included a $10,000 fine – was reportedly part of a plea deal reached in 2023, but Andruchuk appealed anyway, arguing that he had ineffective legal counsel and that there was insufficient evidence to support the punishment.
A three-judge panel issued a 23-page decision in response this week, noting that the waiver of appeal was knowing and voluntary.
“The defendant’s plaint rings hollow when considered in conjunction with his total acquiescence in the district court’s findings of fact and guideline calculations,” the document notes.
Andruchuk filed a quit claim deed on the ten acre Burrillville property following the arrest, handing ownership to his wife. He had been in custody for 14 months prior to the sentencing in April 2023 and is serving time in a federal prison in Virginia, with a projected release date of September 2026.
He still faces additional charges with Burrillville police related to drugs and ghost guns that have been delayed pending completion of the federal sentence.
