Carols, concerts, Santa & more: Six things to know in Burrillville this week

Organ concert

First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will hold an event on Tuesday, Dec. 17 featuring a singing of Christmas carols featuring the historic 1925 pipe organ played by Andrew Pariseau. The event is free to attend and starts at 6:30 p.m.

Blood drive

The Burrillville Police Department will hold a blood drive on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 1 to 7 p.m. in the community room of the station at 1477 Victory Highway. Donors can sign up at ribc.org/drives using sponsor code #5060.

A classic continues…

The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will continue presenting A Christmas Carol at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. this week, with shows on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The production, adapted by Christian O’Neill from the original novella by Charles Dickens, will be directed by K Love with music direction by Merynn Flynn and choreography by Denise Belisle.

Admission costs $27 or $23 for seniors, students and military and tickets are available now at www.ristage.org. An additional $2 fee will apply for at-the-door sales.

Candlelight service

First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will also host another special holiday event this week, with a Candlelight Christmas service on Friday, Dec. 20 starting at 7 p.m. The service will feature the combined choir of St. Theresa’s Church & Our Lady of Good Help and organist Peter Lamoria. All are welcome, and guests are invited to arrive early to see the historic chandelier lighting at 6:45 p.m.

Refreshments will follow the service.

Open Farm

Visit Liberty Farm at 60 Ironmine Road on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the final dates in the farm’s fourth annual open farm and holiday shopping event. Browse unique handmade gifts, purchase holiday treats and items from food trucks, and interact with the farm animals. The event has free parking and admission, but tickets are required for certain activities, including meeting with Santa and horse-drawn wagon rides. Town meetings

The Screening Subcommittee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17 starting at 4 p.m. in the Town Building, 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post #88, Binns Building at 111 Chapel St. The agenda is here.
