CREW election, Medicare assistance & Bingo Night: Seven things to know in Burrillville this week

Burrillville emergency personnel responded simultaneously to Wilson's Reservoir to rescue an individual who had fallen through the ice, leading the Pascoag Fire Department to remind residents to use caution as no ice is 100% safe.

CREW election

Voting is open today for the election of one new member for the new Clear River Electric and Water District Board of Utility Commissioners. Qualified voters can cast their ballot at the office at 253 Pascoag Main St. on Monday, Jan. 13 between the hours of 7 to 10 a.m., and 3 to 6 p.m.

The new seven member CREW board will also consist of three members of the former Pascoag Utility District board and three committee members from the Harrisville Water District. The two entities officially merged on January 1.

Auditions

The Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. will hold auditions this week for a production of Almost Maine to be held in April. Auditions will be held at the theater on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and Thursday, Jan. 16 from 6:30 to 9 pm. There will be cold readings from the script and actors are asked to bring a headshot and resume.

Rehearsals are planned for Sunday afternoons from 1-4 and Monday nights from 6-9. Not all actors will be required for every rehearsal. Tech week is the week of April 6, and all rehearsals are mandatory. Performances are scheduled for April 11, 12 and 13.

New ownership

New Rhode Nutrition smoothie and juice bar at 1452 Bronco Highway is now under new ownership. Christina Shardlow has taken over the business from original owner Cortney Lacey and the business is now closed amid transfer, with a reopening date to be announced soon.

Medicare assistance

Retirement Resources will be holding office hours at Jesse Smith Library over the next few months to answer questions about changes to Medicare plans due to passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. Drop in hours will be held at the library at 100 Tinkham Lane on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

BDTC meeting

The Burrillville Democratic Town Committee will hold a monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in the conference room of Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane starting at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Bingo Night

The Burrillville High School boys basketball teams will hold their second annual Bingo Night on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Townsmen’s Club at 66 Townsmen Way with doors at 6 p.m. and bingo to start at 7 p.m. The cost is $25 a ticket for 12 games, and the event will also feature raffles, a cash bar, pizza and snacks. Tickets are limited and willl not be sold at the door. To reserve a spot call Shannon at (401) 339-2625.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. The agenda is here.

The Clear River Electric & Water District will hold a special meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 starting at 6:15 p.m. at 253 Pascoag Main St. following the close of voting referenced above. The agenda is here.

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 starting at 7 p.m. at Station #2 at 141 Howard Ave. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in the media center of Burrillville High School at 425 East Ave. with executive session to be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a regular meeting at 6 p.m.

The Burrillville Sewer Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 141 Clear River Drive. The agenda is here.

The Harrisville Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14 starting at 7 p.m. at 115 Central St. The agenda is here.
