GLOCESTER – If you saw a film crew in the center of Chepachet on Tuesday, Feb. 4, you could just end up an accidental extra in a new tourism video.
The Town Council recently granted permission for Vagrant, Inc to film in the village for the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, a government economic program that is putting together a video of various tourist destinations across the state. Matthew Touchette, communications director for the group, which hired Vagrant for the project, explained that they had previously recorded and uploaded a segment on summer in Rhode Island to promote tourism in the Ocean State. The current filming will highlight various locations during the winter for tourists to consider.
Vagrant submitted the request.
“It states they are doing an upcoming tourism commercial for the RI Commerce Corporation working on the winter version of the series,” noted Town Council President William Worthy. “They are looking to get ground footage of Chepachet Village with a crew of six during the late afternoon of February 4.”

Town Clerk Jean Fecteau explained that they would be filming buildings, people walking, etc.
“It’s unfortunate they waited until now,” said Councilor Walter Steere. “The village was in its prime during the holidays. That would have been really a fantastic time to do this.”
“Let’s just recreate Christmas again,” suggested Worthy. “Get shoppers on the street again…”
After more discussion regarding safety issues and more the council unanimously agreed to grant the request.
“Any publicity for our town is great,” said Worthy.
“This production is part of our ‘All That’ campaign that we launched last February,” said Touchette. “The additional winter footage will be added to our seasonal update next winter. Content is being captured across all six tourism regions of Rhode Island. The Village of Chepachet was selected for its rich history, quaint shops – including Brown & Hopkins – and restaurants nearby.”
Once complete and launched, all campaign assets will be added to the Tourism News page on VisitRhodeIsand.com for the public to enjoy, since the ads are run outside Rhode Island with the goal of driving visitation to the state.
We hope that the film crew will not only walk Main Street… They should also take time to walk up to the rotary and film businesses Whisky Pearl, Back Label, Heirloom Emporium, Who Cut the Cheesecake, Aegean Pizza and of course the new construction going on.
