
Scouts collection
Scouts BSA Troop 138 North Smithfield is collecting used clothing, household items and books to raise funds for the troop’s summer camp and year-round activities. The scouts will be accepting items this week at Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Notice
The town of North Smithfield has completed the draft Phase II Stormwater annual report in accordance with the Rhode Island Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program. Copies of the report and the municipal stormwater management plan may be obtained at no cost by contacting the Planning Department at 83 Greene St. at (401) 767-2200 ext. 336. The administrative record containing all documents may be inspected through the town website at http://www.nsmithfieldri.org/planning-department.

Interested parties may submit comments on the draft Annual Report and SWMPP to the Planning Department by the close of the public comment period which ends at noon on Friday, Feb. 21. If requests from 25 or more parties are received, a public meeting will be held to discuss the report.

Cookie walk
North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will hold it’s annual Valentine’s Cookie Walk fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visitors are invited to fill a bag with a variety of homemade cookies for $15 until supplies run out.

Grammy win
Congratulations to town native David Rawlings and his partner Gillian Welsh on their win of the Best Folk Album Grammy for their August 2024 album “Woodland,” which was recorded in Nashville. Raised on Sunnycrest Avenue in North Smithfield where his family still lives, Rawlings graduated from North Smithfield High School before attending Berklee College of Music, where he met Welch. The two have been singing together since the early 1990s.
The duo was also nominated for their track “Empty Trainload of Sky” in the Best Americana Performance category, which went to Sierra Ferrell for her song “American Dreaming.”

Pantry dates
The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates in February will take place on Tuesdays, Feb. 18 and 25 starting at 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays, Feb. 15 and 22 starting 10 a.m.
The Food Pantry is open to North Smithfield residents who must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms their address. Guests can attend the pantry all open dates each month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common and are reminded to bring their own bags.

For the month of February, the pantry is seeking donations of spaghetti sauce, canned fruit and canned pasta.
