GLOCESTER – A fire at a home on John Street early Sunday morning destroyed the structure, with one female occupant transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Crews were called to the home just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 9 and would battle the blaze until around 4:30 a.m.
Multiple departments from neighboring towns responded to help with the the three-alarm fire, which engulfed the home, with some 55 firefighters reportedly on scene.
Three people were inside the structure when the fire started, and while two were able to escape safely, the third was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Firefighters reportedly said that it is the third time they have been called to the same home in about a year and a half, with a basement fire last year, and a small blaze at the front of the home around four months ago.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
