BioBlitz, Scout breakfast & a Spring Fair: Six things to know in Glocester this week

BioBlitz

The Rhode Island Natural History Survey and the Glocester Land Trust have planned a BioBlitz at Steere Hill & Phillip’s Farm on June 6 and 7 and an orientation tonight, Tuesday, April 29, will aim to educate those hoping to participate in the event. Participants will work to identify and document as many different species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible during the event.

The training session is free and open to anyone but reservation is required. The event will be held at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike starting at 5:30 p.m. for pizza and socializing, with the meeting to begin at 6 p.m.

Tax payments

Town of Glocester 2024 fourth quarter tax payments are due on Thursday, May 1, with interest/penalties to be applied as of June 2. Anyone who still has not received a tax bill from last year should call (401) 568-6206, ext. 4. In a notice posted this week, town officials said that failure to receive a bill will not excuse non-payment or any related interest/penalty.

Bills can be paid at Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., online with Visa or Mastercard at www.RIeGovernment.com
or checks can be left in the payment drop box.

Derby Bingo

Locals are invited to don their best Kentucky Derby hat on Friday for a night of Bingo at the Chepachet Grange at 28 Chopmist Hill Road. Doors will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2, with Bingo to start at 6 p.m. There will be food available and ten packs of six cards sold for $10. No one under 18 will be allowed in the building in keeping with state law.

Scout breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 44 Glocester will hold their annual May breakfast on Saturday, May 3 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at Chepachet Union Church at () Tickets cost $12, with children under 12 to eat free. The troop will also be collecting Dino’s receipts to support scouting adventures and canned goods to support the CUC food pantry.

Spring Fair

The Glocester Senior Center at 1210 Putnam Pike will hold its annual Spring Fair on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a bake sale, plant table, hand crafted items from crafters, vendors and artisans. Barbara’s Quick lunch will also be on site.

Town meetings

The Glcoester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, May 1 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda will be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website.
