Climate trees
The Burrillville Land Trust will hold a unique drop-in style event at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane on Thursday, June 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., using Legos to illustrate the rise in temperature over the pass 140 years. A project assembled by Lego artist Andrew Grover will display eight trees, each with 120 Lego “leaves” where each leave represents a single month temperature change from a historical temperature range from the 1900s. Each tree covers one decade.
“Making sense and convincing deniers that global climate change is happening becomes tougher when there is so much misinformation and disinformation out there,” said Land Trust President Paul Roselli, president of the Burrillville Land Trust. “We wanted a way to get through the noise and provide a simple visual way of understanding what is happening to our planet.”
Roselli worked with Grover to write a grant and develop the project and Dr. Brian Blais, the physicist, provided the data used for each of the trees. Visitors can stop in anytime during the presentation and do not need to stay for the full two hours.
Roselli will trace his family back to the birth of his grandfather, his father, himself, and then his son and his grandson to show the point in time for each of them in the global climate change – and visitors are invited to do the same with their own family tree.
