
Transcription
Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park in partnership with North Smithfield Heritage Association is co-hosting a transcription session for the Revolutionary War Pension Files on Wednesday, July 16 starting at 6 p.m. at Heritage Hall at 101 Green St. Participants will learn to transcribe pension files of veterans from Old Smithfield, which included Smithfield, North Smithfield, Lincoln, Central Falls and Woonsocket.
Learn the value of wartime pensions and hear service stories about patriots from the Blackstone Valley. Then, rangers will provide training to transcribe records online for the project. Transcribed records will significantly aid research by genealogists and historians. Participants are asked to bring a laptop computer for the session.

Bingo
The Island at 1600 Providence Pike will host a bingo night under the pavilion on Wednesday, July 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public with a $15 entry and bonus pools throughout the night.
Scoops, Songs & Slices
Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road will host Scoops, Songs & Slices on Saturday, July 19, featuring live music, pizza, and handcrafted ice cream. Guests are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a fun-filled evening on the farm with music by So Many Rhodes.

The Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will host Radio Badlands on Saturday, July 19 starting at 8 p.m. Gary Grumbalini will perform on Sunday, July 20 with a show starting at 8 p.m.
Hard Rain will play at The Island at 1600 Victory Highway on Saturday, July 19 starting at 7 p.m.
Tax bills
The town of North Smithfield’s tax bills are set to be mailed out this week with the first quarter due on August 15. Anyone who does not receive a tax bill by the end of July should contact the Tax Assessor’s office at (401) 767-2200 x 323. Residents will have 90 days from the first due date to appeal their new assessment to the Tax Assessor. The appeal forms may be obtained on the town’s website or in the tax assessor’s office at 83 Greene St.
Accreditation
The North Smithfield Police Department recently completed the re-accreditation process with the Rhode Island Accreditation Commission, an achievement that lowers the town’s insurance deductible. NSPD has been an accredited department for 13 consecutive years.

Town meetings
The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1870 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.
