Flower Power, tax appeals & plant walk: Seven things to know in Glocester this week

Tax appeals

The town is notifying residents that the tax appeal period for the 2025 tax roll began on August 1, and all applications and documentation for appeals must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on or before October 30.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

Fundraiser

Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike will hold its annual Flower Power fundraiser on Tuesday, August 12, with freshly cut country bouquets available for a suggested donation of $6 or more. All donations will help to support library services.

Plant ID walk

The Glocester Land Trust will host a plant ID walk at the Steere Hill Farm Conservation Area on Wednesday, August 13, led by Paul Dolan rom the Rhode Island Resource Conservation and Development Council. The walk will start at Steere Hill on Route 44, across from the Harmony Post Office at 5 p.m.

The trust notes that this past spring the Bio Blitz was held at Steere Hill and more than 1,100 different species of plant, animal, fauna were identified.

Blood drive

The Glocester Police Department will hold a blood drive on Thursday, August 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The department notes that the Rhode Island Blood Center has declared a blood emergency and our region’s supply has dropped to less than a 2-day inventory, far below the 7-day supply needed to save lives. While all blood types are urgently needed, the shortage is especially critical for O-negative and O-positive donors.

Sip & Shop

The village of Chepachet will hold another Sip & Shop event on Thursday, August 14, with guests invited to stroll the area and explore merchants while enjoying complimentary beverages. The events will take place throughout the village from 4 to 8 p.m.

Gooseberry Road

Mulberry Vineyards at will offer live, outdoor music on Sunday, August 17 with Gooseberry Road to play from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to enjoy wine and a relaxing afternoon outdoors.

Town meetings

The Glocester Housing Authority will not hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 12.

The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Conservation Commission is expected to hold a meeting on Thursday, August 14 starting at 7 p.m. The meeting will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance.
