WOONSOCKET – A Glocester man who’s racked up a string of arrests for domestic violence after being exonerated in the shooting death of his father in 2021 is in trouble with the law again.

Alex Scott Cote, 27, was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions as an alleged probation offender after his arrest on multiple restraining order violations following a foot chase by the police early Thursday night.

City officers twice fired Tasers at Cote as he reportedly fled from them before the prongs from one of the electronic weapons made contact with his body, fully incapacitating him.

According to police reports, officers responded to 64 Warren Ave. shortly before 6:30 p.m. after receiving information that Cote was violating orders to keep away from a woman he’d been prohibited from having any contact with.

“Alex Cote is…well-known by officers from previous incidents, as such he is a dangerous individual and the use of extreme caution is needed as he is known to have weapons,” Patrol Officer Jared Cain’s report says.

Shortly after arriving at the Warren Avenue residence, officers say they heard yelling and saw Cote running away outside. As he fled toward a patch of woods, one of several police officers in pursuit of Cote fired a Taser at him, but it didn’t stop him.

Cote continued running away, scaling two fences. Officer Cain followed suit and got close enough to Cote to take a Taser shot at him, striking him in the buttocks. The device disabled Cote long enough for officers to get him in handcuffs. He was later transported to Landmark Medical Center to have the Taser prongs removed.

Police charged him with four counts of violating a no-contact order – all felonies – and obstructing. The victim declined to give a statement to the police.

The judiciary’s web site says Cote was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions as an alleged violator of probation on a prior conviction – in June – also for obstructing members of the Woonsocket Police Department.

In April 2021, Cote was arrested for homicide in the shooting death of his father, 43-year-old Adam Castonguay, in an apartment at Plaza Village off Mendon Road. A judge later acquitted Cote, concluding that the defendant had acted in self-defense as his father was choking him.

While Cote was exonerated for the murder, the judge found him guilty of possessing a firearm without a license.

Since the mixed verdict in that case, Cote has been arrested at least a half-dozen times on charges that include felony domestic assault and violating a no-contact order, the judiciary’s web site says.

Some of those charges are tied to a 2023 incident – which also occurred at 64 Warren Ave. – in which Cote threatened to stab his girlfriend and watch her “bleed out.”

“I killed my own dad and have nothing to lose I will kill you too and not think about it,” witnesses quoted him as saying.

Cote is due back in Sixth District Court for a status conference on the new charges on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
