BURRILLVILLE – It’s back-to-school time kids!

The Bus Stop Kids want to remind students to follow some safety rules when headed back to your bus stops and schools beginning this week across the state of Rhode Island. Always cross streets at corners, not midway through. Watch for cars and trucks before crossing streets. Walk safely. Never run into streets. Wait for your school bus to stop completely before crossing streets. The school bus monitor will assist you while crossing streets, so pay close attention and follow guidelines to ensure that you are safe every school day.

Teenagers, make sure that you follow the rules of the road and watch out for children while traveling to and from school. Do not use handheld devices or allow unnecessary distractions. Pay attention to your surroundings while driving. Adults on their way to work should allow for stopped school bus delays and drive extra carefully during the busy school year. Stop for bus flashing lights and wait for them to be turned off entirely before moving forward. If time is an issue, please leave for work earlier so you can arrive to work on time without jeopardizing the safety of others, including children and bus monitors. Slow down. Drive safely.

School is back and staying safer should be a priority for the sake of children attending schools in your community.

Have a safe school year everyone!
