
Labor Day
Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1 in celebration of Labor Day and there will be no trash or recycling collection in North Smithfield. Pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

If you’re looking for something fun to do on the holiday, The Island at 1600 Victory Highway has live entertainment and an outdoor bar open, with music starting at 3 p.m. and continuing until 6 p.m.

Senior Center celebration
Locals age 60 and over are invited to a celebration of Senior Center Awareness Month on Saturday, Sept. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Beef Barn Restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive. The event will feature music by DJ Fran Golombiewski, Zumba, dancing, yard games and food from the restaurant’s food truck. Donations of $5 are appreciated.
The rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 7.

Eagle rank
Troop 1139 Slatersville is announcing its two newest Eagle Scouts, noting Peter Crowshaw and Ben Cofsky recently obtained the rank. Crowshaw is the Troop’s 83rd Eagle Scout and Cofsky is the 84th.
Read to a dog
North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will host Joy with Jasmine on Monday, Sept. 22 starting at 4:30 p.m., a chance for kids to enjoy a 15 minute reading session with a therapy dog, Jasmine, and her guardian, Janice Robertson. Jasmine is a three-year-old American Eskimo/Goldendoodle. The event, which is open to kids ages 6-12, requires registration and typically fills up.

Town meetings
The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
