GLOCESTER – A woman who witnesses say ran through a red light crashing into another vehicle in June – and had to be extracted from her vehicle – is now facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving to endanger resulting in injury.
Jessica Roberts, 39, of Foster was arrested on Friday, June 6 following the incident at the intersection of Chopmist Hill Road and Snake Hill Road just after 8:30 p.m.
According to police, multiple witnesses saw the crash and said that Roberts drove through a red light at a high rate of speed, slamming into a second vehicle and then hitting a guardrail. Both the other driver and a minor involved in the accident were transported to the hospital.
Roberts had bloodshot eyes, according to police, and showed signs of possible impairment. She told officers she had taken marijuana edibles, and police found a bottle of prescription Clonazepam – filled with 70 pills just a few days before the incident – with only 34 pills remaining in the bottle.
Roberts failed field sobriety tests and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
She was arraigned in 3rd District Court and is due back on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
