Hospice 101

Burrillville Senior Services will sponsor Hospice 101 on Wednesday, Sept. 10 starting at 1 p.m. at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. Explore the truths and myths about hospice care and learn how it can help you and your loved one. The event will include a brief informative presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Open house

School open houses begin this week, with events on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Austin T. Levy and Burrillville Middle School. On Thursday, Sept. 18, Burrillville High School will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m.; Steere Farm Elementary from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and William L. Callahan from 6 to 8 p.m.

Bronco parents and guardians are highly encouraged to attend to meet principals and teachers, learn about the schools, and visit classrooms.

Harvest Festival

The Burrillville Fall Harvest Festival will take place on the grounds surrounding the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The annual event features activities for all ages, local craft vendors, live music, food trucks and more, including a laser light show after dark Saturday night.

OMFD Raffle

The muster may be a thing of the past, but the Oakland Mapleville Fire Department’s annual raffle is still on, with a drawing to take place Sunday, Sept. 14. First prize is $500 and second is $200, with third and fourth place prizes of $100 and fifth and sixth place of $50. Tickets cost $1 and can be purchased at the station at 46 Oakland School St. or by calling (401) 568-5720.

Retirement

Congratulations to Officer Kathleen Kelley of the Burrillville Police Department on her recent retirement.

“Throughout her career, Officer Kelly has been a constant presence in our community—serving with dedication, professionalism, and compassion,” noted that Pascoag Fire Department in acknowledging the officer. “Her commitment to protecting the people of Burrillville has left a lasting impact, and her partnership with our department has strengthened the bond between fire and police services in town.”
