Roadwork, anniversary & PHS Athletic Hall of Fame: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Roadwork

Roadwork by JH Lynch will continue on Tuesday, Sept. 9 with paving on West Greenville Road, from Knight’s Farm to Elmdale Road from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Glocester Police Department is warning drivers that traffic will be reduced to one lane, alternating throughout the day and delays should be expected while work is in progress.

Hurricane season

The Glocester Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents that our area is in peak hurricane season and that preparing now may save property and lives. The agency has advised residents that they should make sure their generators are in functioning condition and that they have at least three days of food, water and medicines at home at all times. GEMA noted that in large storms, it may be up to 72 hours until emergency assistance will arrive.

Anniversary

Congratulation to Harmony Childcare & Learning Center at 185 Putnam Pike, which marked 20 years in business this week, celebrating two decades of caring for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. The business is now enrolling kids for the 2025/2026 school year.

Vendors wanted

Glad Tidings Community Church at 111 Victory Highway is now accepting registration from small businesses, organizations and other local vendors interested in participating in a fall festival to be held on Saturday, Nov. 1. Booths cost $35 per vendor and registration is available here.

Hall of Fame

The Ponaganset High School Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its annual induction dinner on Saturday, Sept. 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Bella Restaurant at 1992 Victory Highway. This year’s inductees include Eliza Badeau, Class of 2006; Roger Briggs, Class of 1983; Matt Fletcher, Class of 1991; Nathan Seoane, Class of 2003; Coach Chris Branch; Jonathan Campbell, Class of 1996; Russell Morin, Class of 2008; and Ron Stockwell, Class of 1980.

Tickets cost $50 for adults or $15 for children 10 and under and can be purchased via check made out to Ponaganset Athletic Hall of Fame mailed to Sue Stevens, 116 Cumberland Hill Road, Foster, RI, 02825. Questions can be directed to [email protected]. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District Executive Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Station 1 at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
