Pumpkin Festival, Winter Hoops & So Many Rhodes: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Sing and Swing

North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will host Deb’s Sing & Swing starting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Deb Hudgins will present a program of singing, music, dance and stories suited for preschool children. Attendees are asked to register here.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17 visit the library for Sprouts: Growing a Reader Storytime at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to register.

Entertainment

The Island at 1600 Victory Highway will host Acoustically Dead on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Riff Raff on Friday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 20, the venue will host a pitch tournament starting at 1 p.m. and band All She Wrote from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, Willy Wayz will perform from 3 to 6 p.m.

The Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will have Anthony Deyoe on Friday, Sept. 19 starting at 7 p.m. and So Many Rhodes on Saturday, Sept. 20 starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 21, it’s Piano Steve starting at 3 p.m.

Pumpkin Festival

The 18th annual Great Pumpkin Festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m on the grounds of North Smithfield High School and Middle School along Providence Pike, with parking available at both schools. The event will feature live entertainment, food, vendors, games and activities, with participation by a record number of local organizations and businesses.

The entrance fee is $2 at the gate, and many activities are free.

Let Your Life Speak

Smithfield Friends will host Let Your Life Speak on Sunday, Sept. 21, a special service with interfaith minister, Rev. Natalia de Rezendes featuring inspirational music and messages. All are welcome to join the service at the Smithfield Friends Meetinghouse at 108 Smithfield Road – just across from the Union Cemetery – starting at 10:30 a.m.

Winter Hoops

Registration is now open for North Smithfield Parks and Recreation’s Winter Hoops program, with the season to run from early November through mid-February. The pre-k prgram will have one session per week and costs $80. Players in grades 2 through 8 will have one practice and one game night per week, and the full season costs $100 per player. Registration is available here with late fees to apply after 9/30.

The North Smithfield Personnel Board will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the police station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda is here.
