BURRILLVILLE – Officials with the Burrillville School Department said an investigation is underway following a “cybersecurity event” this week.

According to a release from the district, the event occurred in the early morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24.

“Immediate action was taken and the Burrillville School Department is actively working with law enforcement as well as external cybersecurity professionals to assist in the investigation,” the release noted.

Services requiring internet access were not operational in Burrillville schools on Wednesday and Thursday.

Supt. Michael Sollitto said that the district took swift action with the goal of protecting school department data.

“We will keep the community informed as the investigation unfolds,” Sollitto said.

The release noted that “all Burrillville schools are currently operational with teaching and learning happening in classrooms throughout the district.”

Officials stated that no student or staff Chromebooks were impacted by the event.
