Ranked Choice Voting

The public is invited to an informational meeting about Ranked Choice Voting sponsored by the North Smithfield and Burrillville Democratic Town Committees on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the community room of Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane.

Reenactment

Bull Hampshire will hold a battle reenactment with the New England Brigade at Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club at 200 Brook Road on Friday, Oct. 3 starting at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Haunted Library

Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane will hold Haunted Library: Forest of Fear on Friday, Oct. 3 a free Halloween event with doors to open at 7 p.m. and the last tour to begin at 8:30 p.m. Experience the library after dark with plenty of scares at the event, which is not suitable for young children.

Share the Warmth

Berean Baptist Church at 474 Chapel St. will hold the “Share the Warmth” winter coat and clothing drive on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The church will be collecting new or gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, snow pants, boots and more to help local communities. Visit through the side entrance of the church located next to the Town Hall side parking lot. There will be coffee and donuts to enjoy.

The Family Clothing Resource will also be open the same day in the lower level of the church. The resource is free and open to residents of Burrillville, Glocester, North Smithfield, Scituate and Foster. The Helping Hands Food Pantry will also be open, exclusively to Burrillville residents.

Bird walk

The Burrillville Land Trust will host a fanciful bird walk along the Ernie and Norma O’Leary Agricultural and Conservation Land on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m., led by Laura Carberry. Discover birds in flight as the start of migration takes place. Guests should use 265 Croff Road, Pascoag as a GPS reference. Sturdy shoes are needed for the approximate 1 mile loop through both the Buck Hill Management Area and land owned by the trust. The event is free, and anyone with difficulty finding the location can call (401) 447-1560.

Trash takedown

Burrillville Lightning Wrestling Club in partnership with M & A Family Disposal invites locals to Takedown your Trash at a dumpster fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Steere Farm Elementary School at 915 Steere Farm Road Dump off a carload of junk for $40; a minivan/SUV for $50 or a pickup truck for $65.

Oktoberfest/Car Show

Dev’s Tavern at 341 Chapel St. will hold its second annual Oktoberfest and Antique Car Show on Sunday, Oct. 5 from noon to 3 p.m. Guests are invited to check out antique vehicles while enjoying beer specials hot pretzels and brats. 

Jeeps for Veterans

Join local Jeep owners on Sunday, Oct. 5 from noon to 6 p.m. as they invade Bravo Brewing Company at 75 Pascoag Main St. to raise funds for Home Base, an organization that supports veterans and their families. The event will feature a 50/50 raffle and more.

Town meetings

There are no meeting for Burrillville’s town boards or fire districts currently listed on the Secretary of State’s website for the coming week. Meetings must be posted 48 hours in advance and could be added later in the week.
